Seth Gilliam

The opponent: The Herd’s only win was a 22-14 verdict over Central Dauphin … The Trojans’ only win was also vs. CD (19-14) … Last year, Chambersburg escaped winless Carlisle with a 6-0 victory … “Carlisle looks a lot like us, with a multiple-spread offense and the same look on defense,” Chambersburg coach Gary Carter said. “They’ve been in some games and had chances to win, kind of like us. I do think they have better athletes than they had last year.”
Coach’s viewpoint: Carter said, “We have to shut down their RPO run game with the quarterback and running back, and the QB can scramble, too. He’s got some wiggle. The main thing is we have to stay focused and not make mistakes. And we have to get some turnovers (the Trojans have yet to recover a fumble this season and have only 2 interceptions). We do our tackling drills and fumble drills every day but we just can’t seem to get one.”
Unsung: Carter was very happy with several members of the defense last week — LBs Deakon Snavely and Mason Mowen, and end Seth Gilliam … “Snavely played his butt off, and all three of those guys made around 11 tackles,” Carter said.
Trojan statistics: Passing — Justin Deneen 50-for-87 (57.5%), 618 yards, 5 TDs, 0 int.; Cam Green 34-for-59 (57.3%), 532 yards, 4 TDs, 2 int. … Rushing — Malachi Tasker 85-278 (3.3 avg.), 1 TD … Receiving — Jashaun Palmer 20-363 (19.2 avg.), 2 TDs; Lucas Ocker 15-281 18.7 avg.), 4 TDs; Isaiah Ferguson 12-192 (16 avg.), 2 TDs; Tasker 10-106 (10.6 avg.); Seth Gilliam 12-90 (7.5 avg.), 1 TD … Tackles — Deakon Snavely 70; Gilliam 48; Colton Horst 45; Devon Nalewak 36 … Tackles for loss — Snavely 5, Gilliam, Nalewak and Jayzee Menard 2 each … Sacks — Gilliam 3.

Last week: Milton Hershey (2-4, 2-1 MPC) blasted Boiling Springs, 45-0 … Greencastle (4-2, 2-1 MPC) picked up an impressive 28-21 win over previously unbeaten West Perry …  In the District 3A rankings, G-A is No. 11 in 4A.
The opponent: Milton Hershey beat Boiling Springs 45-7; G-A beat the Bubblers, 45-7 … The other common foe was Susquehanna Twp., which was a 30-14 loss by MH and a 42-0 loss by the Blue Devils … G-A coach Jason Thurston said, “They have a decent-sized quarterback and a good-sized line. They usually run a shotgun or pistol offense. On defense, they play a 4-4 and they have been able to get some penetration by the D-line.”
Coach’s viewpoint: “We want to mix the run and the pass and spread the ball around,” Thurston said. “But Spencer Long has established himself as our premiere back, so we have to get him the ball. The defense was working on open-field tackling and change of direction. We’ve told the kids — every game from here on out has to be treated as a playoff game.”
Unsung: Thurston nominated his defensive line (Wyatt Hull and Zachary Russell at end, Loki Huffman and Ben Jansen and Gavin Knable inside) … “They really pressured the West Perry QB last week; I think we had six sacks.” … Hull sacked Hayden Fleisher on the game’s last play to seal G-A’s victory.
Blue Devil statistics: Passing — Gavin Logsdon 30-for-59 (50.8%), 447 yards, 4 TDs, 0 int. … Rushing — Spencer Long — 56-450 (8.0 avg.), 7 TDs; Landon Kagarise 35-192 (5.5 avg.), 4 TDs … Receiving — W.Hull (11-267 (24.5 avg.), 2 TDs; Long 5-106 (21.2), 1 TD … Tackles — Elijah Ambrose 34; Braden Eckert 28; Dominic Angelini 26; Luke Hull 26 … Tackles for loss — Loki Huffman 8; Zachary Russell 8; Ben Jansen 6; L.Hull 6 … Sacks — Russell 4.5; Huffman 3.5; W.Hull 3 … Interceptions — Angelini 2 … Fumbles recovered — Ryan Schick 2, Dane Medina 2, Ethan South 2.
