Chbg. roundup: Trojans defeat CD to capture big volleyball win

Chambersburg 3, Central Dauphin 1: The Trojans hosted their annual Dig Pink Night, and made it memorable by taking down the Rams in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest at CASHS Field House on Tuesday night.

Chambersburg’s Kasey Moser racked up 15 kills, including the 500th of her career, and she also had 13 service points and 12 digs.

“The crowd saw high-level volleyball on both sides of the net,” Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. “CD is such a tough opponent, but we played with an intensity and focus and came away with a huge win. We controlled the net and played great defense. Such a great night!”

Chambersburg (7-5, 3-4 MPC), winners of 3 straight, won the first two games, 26-24 and 25-22, and, after CD took Game 3, 25-23, ended it with a 25-16 nod in the fourth.

Other leaders for the Trojans were Lexi Poe (14 points), Lydia Zentz (3 blocks), Olivia Shearer (17 kills), Kylee Perry (22 assists) and Lizzy Porter (14 digs). Maddie Rydbom and Ayla Whiteley each had 2 blocks, Perry had 8 kills, Grace Myers contributed 20 assists and Poe had 12 digs.

Chambersburg 4, Mechanicsburg 0: The Trojans earned a needed win Tuesday night at Trojan Stadium, handing the Wildcats a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat.

“We needed a big win tonight and they got it done,” Chambersburg coach Marc Furfaro said. “Super proud of the boys.”

Inside of the first minute, the Trojans got on the board with Levi Findley scoring after a pass from Mason Schenzel on a set piece. The second goal came on a corner kick, with Jason Lopez assising a goal by Landon Djannie. Before halftime, Chambersburg (5-5-1, 2-4-12 MPC) scored on a counter attack, with Brandon Arana assisting Cardson Ymonnice for the goal.

In the second half, Will Smith hit a rocket from about 35 yards out that made it into the goal.

Furfaro said, “We came out extremely strong in the first half, and Smith’s goal sealed the game.”

Cedar Cliff 3, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans went on the road to play the Colts on Tuesday night in a non-league game and Cedar Cliff prevailed for a victory.

Amora Lopez made two defensive saves for Chambersburg (4-6-2), and goalie Lacey Mooney collected 13 saves, including the 300th of her career in just her second versity season.

“The defense had a phenomenal game,” Trojan coach Rachael Sanders said. “The defense continues to be strong, with our unit of Brooke Mickey, Amora Lopez, Ella Sollenberger, Savannah White and Mooney. They held an aggressive Cedar Cliff offense down and kept the game competitive.

“While the scoreboard doesn’t reflect it, the team played really well as an entire unit.”
