DILLSBURG — Six players — three boys and three girls — competed in the Mid Penn Championships in golf on Tuesday at Range End Golf Club and played well enough to qualify for the District 3 event.

Shippensburg ace Kaydee Beckenbaugh shot a 4-over round of 75 to become the girls medalist for the Mid Penn. She shot nines of 35-40 and posted birdies on three holes — Nos. 4, 7 and 11 — to win by a comfortable 6 strokes.

The other girls who made the cut were Abby Byers of Waynesboro and Abby Rensch of Chambersburg. Byers shot 89 to place 10th, and had nines of 43-46 with a birdie on No. 6. Rensch shot 45 on the front and 53 on the back to post a 98.

Trojan coach Mark Yost said, “Abby had a solid round, except for a couple of hiccups in the middle. But she was able to right the ship and qualify.”

On the boys side, Ship’s Kaden Ramsey shot 79 (38-41) with birds on Nos. 9 and 18, to tie for 15th place, with the top 24 players advancing.

Chambersburg’s Kole Peiffer (41-39) and Greencastle-Antrim’s Camden Eby (40-40) each shot 80, with Peiffer scoring a birdie on No. 17.

That placed the two in a group of seven players at 80, with the final three spots for districts up for grabs. In a playoff that began on No. 10, a 170-yard par 3, Eby and Peiffer managed pars along with one other golfer, and the other four failed to make par and were knocked out.

Blue Devil coach (and father) Jeremy Eby said, “Camden stuffed his shot to 10 feet. He told me, ‘It was my best swing of the day.’ From my perspective as his coach, it was a really quality shot under a lot of pressure, which makes me really proud.”

“Kole finished his round on No. 4, which is a tough hole, but he played real solid golf and kept it together,” said Yost.

Greencastle also competed in the team competition and placed 9th among 12 teams. G-A shot a total of 337, while the winner, Cumberland Valley, came in at 303. The Blue Devils’ Bryce Davidson shot 83 (44-49) and Jex McDowell carded an 87 (44-43).

The District 3 tournament begins Thursday morning at Honey Run Golf Club.
