CHAMBERSBURG — The 21st annual Tim Cook Invitational was held under sunny, if cold, skies on Saturday at Trojan Stadium and produced three meet records and four local winners.
James Buchanan sophomore sprinter Cheyenne Eby was the area’s only double winner. She prevailed in the 100 dash with a time of 12.49, and followed it up with a win in the 200, finishing in 26.80.
The other winner on the girls’ side was Olivia Coy of Chambersburg, who hit a leap of 35-0 to capture the triple jump.
In boys events, the 1600 had the only local winner. Noah Parks of Greencastle-Antrim was timed in 4:29.21 as he hit the finish line.
Five events for the boys had second-place finishes by area athletes, as well as four for the girls.
For the Trojans, Jon Dawe was second in the 300 hurdles, Odenie McLaughlin took the same place in the triple jump, Luke Mertz tied for second in the pole vault and Julian Clark was the 3200 runner-up.
James Buchanan’s Colton Yeager posted a time of 51.12 in the 400, and was just a hair behind the winner, Kah’Din Gann-Lockett of Milton Hershey (51.20).
Chambersburg boys coach Jim Boyer said, “We used this first invitational to try some guys in different relays and positions, which will help us build some depth in our relay pool.
“The other standouts today were many of our athletes and booster club parents who volunteered todayand helped the big meet (30-plus teams) run smoothly.”
For the girls, Chambersburg’s Dechea Davis placed right behind Eby in the 100 and teammate Fi Richards was the discus runner-up. Shippensburg’s Jolene Patton was second in the pole vault.
Chambersburg’s girls did well in the relays, taking second in the 4×100 (Natalie Anderson, Bree Paetow, Davis and Addy Brubaker) and in the 4×400 (Brubaker, Coy, Paetow and Maggie Holtry). The Trojans also placed fifth in the 4×800 relay.
Trojan girls coach Chris Monheim said, “This is as good as the girls have looked in a Cook meet in a long time. After a 6-hour meet, I was so impressed to see our 4 x 4 relay team post a great early-season time (4:22.95) and challenge for the victory.”
The only local third-place finisher was Alyssa Fowler of Greencastle in the pole vault.
Meet records were set by Carlisle’s Kolbin Heberlig in the boys 800 (1:56.99), Wilson in the 4×100 relay (42.89) and Troy Raup of Danville in the discus (177-3).
