McConnellsburg controllably defeats Forbes Road

BOYS BASKETBALL

McConnellsburg 72, Forbes Road 43.  A strong Spartan first half, accumulating 45 points and a 30-point lead, distanced the host from the Forbes Road Cardinals and set their fate for the second ICC matchup held January 23^rd.  At the first meeting on December 3^rd the Spartans won at Forbes by a score of 69-33 and similarly here decisively controlled the game winning by 29 to their 15^th straight victory.

The Spartans’ Hoyt Glenn and Shaffer Earley achieved double doubles, with Glenn posting 21 points, 10 assists, and four steals, while Earley added a season high 17 points and pulled a team individual season high 14 rebounds.  Brayden Ramsey also added 18 points, six assists, five steals, and three blocks.  In this game, the Spartans (15-0, 5-0 ICC-S) recorded their second-highest number of defensive rebounds and achieved their highest assists total of the season.

The Cardinals’ (8-9, 1-5 ICC-S) Jacoby Knepper led with 14 points, followed by Sawyer Hollibaugh with 10.

McConnellsburg routs Forbes Road

GIRLS BASKETBALL

McConnellsburg 56, Forbes Road 39.  An overpowering third quarter by the Lady Spartans, coupled with Lady Cardinal turnovers with ball handling errors added to a lopsided scoring advantage that contributed largely to the win over Forbes Road in a conference game at home on January 20^th.  

McConnellsburg won the last time they faced Forbes and Journie Jefferson did her part to repeat that result. The Spartans strolled past the Cardinals with points to spare, taking the game 56-39.  Jefferson shot 40% from the field en route to 19 points and five boards.  She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she’s played.  Brookelynn Gelvin added eight, Genesis Clevenger seven. The victory made it two in a row for McConnellsburg and bumps their season record up to 9-7 (2-2 ICC-S).

Forbes Road’s loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances.  The Cardinals (8-9, 1-4 ICC-S) were led by Sydney Gelvin with 12 points and seven rebounds, followed by Grace Barnett with seven points.
