BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 61, Altoona 43: The Mountain Lions made it a closer game than the first time these two teams met (an 28-point Trojan win), but Chambersburg prevailed in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Friday night on the road.
“This was a great response after Wednesday’s game (loss to CD),” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “The guys were respectful of what Altoona was capable of doing, as they were coming off wins at both Harrisburg and Carlisle. I liked how locked in we were to the scouting report and how we were holding one another accountable to meeting it.”
The Trojans (11-5, 7-4 MPC) outscored Altoona (3-12, 3-8 MPC) by at least 3 points in each quarter.
Shreffler said, “Josh Rudy was impactful tonight. He pounded the glass early for multiple offensive rebounds and was relentless on defense.
“Seth Gilliam was a force on defense. He played a huge role in guarding (Eliot McCloskey, 9 points), who I feel is their most important player. Seth held him to 1 point in the second half. That freed up the other guys to make plays, which we did more efficiently in the second half.”
Colton Cornwell led Chambersburg on offense with 24 points, which is a career-high total. Landon Buhrman had a double-double, including 14 points, Grayson Kegerreis tossed in 10 points and Jarrett Gipe led the team in deflections with 6.
