3 local teams qualify for District 3 playoffs

District 3 released its softball playoff brackets on Thursday and 3 Franklin County teams have qualified for the tournament, which begins Monday.

Chambersburg (15-4) grabbed the No. 5 seed in Class 6A. The Trojans will host a first-round game Monday vs. No. 12 Red Lion (10-10) at 4:30. The winner will play the winner of No. 4 Central York (16-4) vs. No. 13 Manheim Township (9-11) in a quarterfinal next Thursday, with the higher seed hosting.

Greencastle-Antrim (17-2), a the No. 1 seed in Class 5A, received a bye in the first round. The Blue Devils will host either No. 9 Hershey (14-5) or No. 8 Lower Dauphin (14-5) on Thursday at 4:30 in a quarterfinal.

The Mid Penn Conference canceled the league playoffs, which were scheduled to be played Thursday, because of wet fields. So G-A will have gone 12 days without a game when it hosts next week.

Also in 5A, Shippensburg grabbed the No. 13 seed. The Greyhounds (12-7) will play at No. 4 Donegal (16-4) on Monday in the first round. The winner gets either No. 5 Red Land (15-3) or No. 12 New Oxford (11-9) on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
