Chambersburg 12, Waynesboro 1: The Trojans wrapped up their regular season on Thursday afternoon at Norlo Park with a non-league romp over the Maidens.
Chambersburg (15-4) will next play Monday in a first-round game of the District 3 Class 6A playoffs. The No. 5 seed Trojans will host No. 12 Red Lion (10-10) at 4:30 at Norlo Park. The winner will play the winner of No. 4 Central York (16-4) vs. No. 11 Manheim Township (9-11) in a quarterfinal next Thursday.
The top of the lineup was dominant for Chambersburg — the top 3 hitters in the lineup were a combined 10-for-10 with 2 walks, 7 runs and 7 runs batted in.
“The girls came out with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm today,” Trojan coach Chris Skultety said. “We hit all through the lineup and the defense was superb again. This is the kind of energy and execution it’s going to take to make a deep playoff run.”
Leadoff batter Bree Paetow was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI; No. 2 Karley Skultety was also 3-for-3, with 2 runs and an RBI and Addison Gsell was 4-for-4 with 2 runs and 5 ribbies.
Skultety belted a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, her fourth of the season. She also collected the 100th hit of her career, giving her prominent milestones in her two sports — she finished with over 1,000 digs in volleyball this past fall. She is the first Trojan to accomplish that unique feat.
Kori Leedy was also 3-for-3 for Chambersburg, while Sanay Jones knocked in a pair of runs. Gsell and Marley Onomastico hit triples and Leedy had a double.
Leedy also earned the win, pitching 4 innings of 2-hit shutout ball. Issie Slimmer gave up 3 hits and a run in her one inning.
Waynesboro finished with a 6-13 record.
