GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 107, Central Dauphin 43; Cumberland Valley 93, Chambersburg 57: The Trojans split results in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet on Tuesday afternoon at New Kingstown, beating CD and falling to the Eagles.
Chambersburg (3-3, 3-3 MPC) picked up 6 individual wins and placed 1-2 in 3 events.
“In 23 years of coaching, that was one of the very worst weather days we’ve ever competed in,” Trojan coach Chris Monheim said. “Rain, wind, a little hail — it was relentless.”
Marlee Jackson took first in the 100 hurdles in 17.64, and took second in the 300 hurdles. Mady Koons had a pair of seconds, in the 800 and 1600 races.
Monheim said, “Marlee and Mady had nice days and showed a ton of mental toughness on the track, and our field kids had a nice day.”
In the field, 5 Trojans were winners. Mimi Sistrunk took the high jump with a leap of 4-10 and Alaina Morris was the pole vault winner with a height of 9-0. Serafina Richards tossed the discus 94-10 to win that event by over 24 feet.
In the long jump, Jaxin Frazer was first at 15-6.5, followed by Addy Zimmerman in second place. In the triple jump, Olivia Coy won at 32-5.25, with Frazer second and Zimmerman third.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 104, Central Dauphin 32; Cumberland Valley 71, Chambersburg 69: The Trojans lost a heartbreaker to the Eagles while crushing the Rams in a Mid Penn Commonwealth tri-meet at New Kingstown on a brutal Tuesday afternoon.
“We had 10-minute increments of sun, followed by 10 minutes of strong winds and blowing rain the whole meet,” Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer said. “It felt like we were changing seasons as often as we changed events.”
Cumberland Valley won two of the three relays, which could have been the margin of victory.
Boyer said, “I’m confident there’s nothing else we could have done late in the meet to change the CV result. Our biggest competitor today was some of the team’s academic ineligibility, injuries and/or poor practice attendance keeping them from competing.”
The distance crew scored a bunch of points for Chambersburg (4-2, 4-2 MPC). Freshman Cole Lehman won the 800 (2:12.10) and Aiden Alleman was second. Liam Kirkpatrick won the 1600 (4:36.77), Kaden Rife was second and Julian Clark third. Dominic Onomastico took the 3200 (10:43.32), followed by Kirkpatrick and Rife. And the 4 x 800 team of Rife, Kirkpatrick, Boston Vincenti and Alleman won in 8:44.22.
Other winners for Chambersburg were Jon Dawe (300 hurdles in 41.22), Trever Luther (long jump, 20-1.75), Pierce Schoenhofen (shot put, 43-5) and Jude Grillo (javelin, 151-8).
BASEBALL
Mechanicsburg 4, Chambersburg 2: The Trojans out-hit the Wildcats, 6-4, but Mechanicsburg took a 4-1 lead after 2 innings and hung on for a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Thursday on the road.
Chambersburg starter Ryne Mills allowed only 4 hits in 5 innings and struck out 4. But he also walked 5. Harrison Benedict pitched the last inning and had 1 walk and 2 Ks.
In the first for Mechanicsburg (6-3), a single, a walk and 2 stolen bases led to Nick Patrick hitting a 2-run single. In the second, Ryne walked 3 straight batters and Dane Mark then came through with a single for 2 more runs.
The Trojans (1-8, 0-6 MPC) got one run in the second inning. Keaton Barclay led off with a single, followed by a Ceagan Truett base hit. A Wildcat error on the play put the runners on second and third. One run scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Brycen Murray, but with runners on first and third with 1 out, the next two batters fanned.
In the top of the seventh, Chambersburg’s Kam Mauriello singled with one out. With two outs, Wyatt Martin and Evan Brown singled, with Brown getting an RBI. But the game then ended on a strikeout.
