GIRLS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 10, Carlisle 8: For the first time in the program’s history, the Trojans came out on top of a Mid Penn Commonwealth tussle against the Thundering Herd, using a strong defense to win at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday night.
“Carlisle dominated the draw tonight, but our defense was lights out,” Chambersburg coach Shane Henry said. “We executed the game plan and it was a total team effort, and I’m really proud of them.”
Goalie Reese Heverley posted 16 saves for the Trojans (3-3, 3-3 MPC). Defenders Brooke Mickey, Maryn Henry and Sarah Wilcox caused a combined six turnovers.
Coach Henry said, “Our defense was the shining star — they were communicating and working so well together. Heverley was phenomenal.”
Reagan Barrett scored 4 goals, caused 4 turnovers and won 4 draws. Brynn Sekel had 2 goals, 3 turnovers, 2 ground balls and 5 draw controls. Adele Henry scored twice and Mollie Yardley-Gontz and McKenna Myers each had 1 goal.
SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 10, State College 2: The Trojans put it all together Tuesday after a long trip to State College and handled the Little Lions in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Tuesday afternoon.
“The girls played well in all aspects of the game today,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “With the long bus trip, you never know what you’re going to get. It’s a good start to the week and hopefully we can take the momentum we built over the last two games into tomorrow (home game vs. Mifflin County, moved up from Thursday).”
Kori Leedy pitched 6 scoreless innings of 2-hit ball, with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Issie Slimmer allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in the seventh.
Karley Skultety led the offense, going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Addison cracked a 2-run home run, and Bree Paetow, Malia Cramer and Marley Onomastico each produced 2 hits. Cramer and Kylie Perry each plated a pair of runs.
Coach Skultety said, “Kori was dominate controlling the strike zone and worked well with (catcher) Karley. Perry had her first varsity hit, Ono had some big hits with two outs and Karley ripped the ball today.”
