McConnellsburg Triumphs Over Everett

McConnellsburg 79, Everett 59.  On Tuesday, February 4th, the Spartans hosted the Everett Warriors for an ICC contest.  The game was a high scoring affair with the Spartans dominating the second quarter and holding the Warriors to four points then to essentially maintain that lead throughout the remainder of the game to ice the win.

The first matchup was on January 10th where the Spartans capped the Warriors by winning every quarter and the game 49-19.

In tonight’s first quarter, the Warriors’ and Spartans battled back and forth ending tied at 20.  In the second quarter, the Spartans produced a ten-unanswered point run in the first three and a half minutes.  Everett got their first bucket of two at 4:20 to go.  Everett took two timeouts in the frame to try to break up the Spartan storm.  At 2:50 remaining the Spartans were up 38-22.  Two treys later from Hoyt Glenn and Dom Jefferson and it was a 20-point lead.  The Spartans’ defense was amped up and held the Warriors to 4 points in the quarter, leading 46-24 at halftime.

Both teams scored evenly in the third quarter, with Everett slightly ahead (18-16). The fourth quarter mirrored this, with Everett scoring one more point (17-16), but McConnellsburg’s second-quarter surge secured their 79-59 victory.

The Spartans’ scoring was on fire with four in double-digits, all led by:  MaxPreps PA High School Athlete of the Week Hoyt Glenn with a double-double of 28 points and ten assists; Brayden Ramsey with 15 points; Shaffer Earley with a double-double of 15 points and ten rebounds; and Dom Jefferson with 14 points.

This victory extends the Spartans’ impressive record to 18-1 overall (D5 AA first place), 7-0 in ICC South (first place), marking their 17th straight triumph, and 14th win of 20+ points.  The Spartans are averaging 64 points per game (ppg) to opponent’s 32 avg. ppg over its last 19 contests.

The game precursor also featured the Senior Recognition for the Spartan cheerleaders, basketball players, and coaching staff.  Congratulations to all athletes and volunteers for your dedication to supporting Spartan’s athletics groups.
