Blazer girls topple Faith

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers pulled away late in the fourth quarter to defeat Faith Christian 42-33 Tuesday evening in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference girls basketball game.

The Blazers (10-7, 6-3 MDCC) led only 15-14 at halftime and 29-26 entering the last quarter before outscoring Faith 13-7 in the final eight minutes. Addison Teal scored 10 of the 13 points in the period, and Kaitlyn Garvin added the other three on free throws.

“We had to overcome some key players getting in foul trouble,” Blazers coach Corey Collins said. “I am very pleased with how the girls managed the game towards the end. We were able to get to the free throw line and convert. Always good to win a gritty home game, especially with the playoffs coming up. Faith was very resilient all night, so credit to them.”

The Blazers are pretty much locked into the third seed in the MDCC tournament and will host a playoff game on Feb. 18, most likely against New Life.

Teal wound up with a game-high 17 points, including 11 from the foul line. Makenna Morris added 12 points, including nine of the team’s 14 in the third period. Garvin and Reagan Witmer each scored five points, and Chloe Smith contributed three.

In rebounding, Teal led with 10, followed by Smith and Witmer with eight each. Smith had four assists and Garvin three. Teal also led with six steals.
