Chambersburg roundup: Trojan boys put clamps on Hempfield

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 45, Hempfield 24: It was a mismatch on paper and it proved to be a mismatch on the court, too.

Chambersburg hosted Hempfield, a normally strong program in the midst of a tough season, on Saturday afternoon and defeated the Black Knights handily.

The Trojans (15-4) held Hempfield (3-17) to just 12 points through the first three quarters.

“We were extremely solid on the defensive end of the court,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “That played a big role in the 30-point deficit lead that led to a running  clock for most of the second half.

“They have a number of very capable shooters, but we did well to contest shots and rebound the misses. And then we capitalized on those stops (in transition), or showed patience and executed against their various zone looks.”

In the Trojans’ current 4-game win streak, they have allowed only 37.25 points per game, and the 24 on Saturday was a season low for an opponent.

J.J. Kelly poured in 20 points to pace Chambersburg, Landon Buhrman added 8 and Aedan Walker had a season-high 3. Ashton Lewis led the Black Knights with 8 points.
