G-A roundup: Eastern York tops Blue Devils in 2 hoops games

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Eastern York 46, Greencastle-Antrim 39: The Blue Devils trailed for the majority of the game, but were able to tie it in the fourth quarter before the Golden Knights rallied again for a non-league victory in Wrightsville on Wednesday night.

The game was tied 33-33 when EY’s Calista Ilgenfritz nailed a 3-pointer (her 4th of the game) to give her team the lead for good.

G-A had numerous possessions to catch up again, but couldn’t pull it off. The Knights (8-7) hit 7 of 8 foul shots to ice the game in the final quarter.

Kiersten Swain led the Blue Devils (6-7) with 14 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Liz Carey (9 points) and Callie Izer (7) each had 3 boards, and Ellie Bigler grabbed 6 rebounds to go with 3 assists.

Alaina Neal had 17 points and Ilgenfritz 14 for Eastern York.

Eastern York 74, Greencastle-Antrim 50: The Golden Knights had a 1-2 punch that was too much for the Blue Devils and the visitors took a non-league win over G-A on Wednesday night on Greencastle’s home court.

Eastern (10-3), ranked No. 2 in the District 3 Class 4A rankings, jumped out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter, and put the game away by outscoring G-A 24-17 in the third period.

Carter Wamsley led the Knights with 22 points, and Brady Seitz totaled 21. Seitz hit all 5 of his 3-pointers in the middle two periods.

Those two players more than made up for Carter McCauley’s big night for Greencastle (4-9), which lost its fourth straight. McCauley posted a career-high 29 points, including 8 in the first quarter and 10 in the third period. Kolten Johnson was next with 6 points.

Big Spring 63, Greencastle-Antrim 3: The Blue Devils did not match up very well against the Bulldogs and dropped a lopsided Mid Penn Colonial meet in Newville on Wednesday night.

Nathan Painter was the only wrestler for Greencastle (5-9, 1-3 MPC) to snag a victory. He decisioned Ben Fenicle by an 11-5 score.

The only other Blue Devil to lose by regular decision was Kahl Cordell at 107, who fell 8-1 to Nik Bradley.

Big Spring raised its record to 10-8(4-2 MPC).
