BOYS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 100, State College 85: The Trojans earned a huge victory Wednesday evening, traveling to State College to hand the Little Lions a 100-85 Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat.
“This was a fantastic win for our program and a total team effort,” Chambersburg coach Chad White said. “It’s very difficult to be a bus for 2 hours and then get up to race, but that’s exactly what they did. The atmosphere at their pool is amazing because the sound echoes and the crowd gets very loud.
“We had many gutsy performances tonight where we had to step up and race tired without much rest. Thomas (McCullough), Griffin (Adamek) and Xavier (Covington) all had doubles when they had to swim a relay and 5 minutes later they had an individual event. All three of them scored in their individual events.”
The Trojans (6-1, 2-1 MPC) won 8 events, including 2 relays.
Coach White said, “Our B relays really came through in the 200 medley and 200 free to get those third-place points. And our divers put up season-best scores and gave us a 5-point cushion going into the second half of the meet.”
Cristian Pong placed first in the 100 butterfly (50:46) and in the 100 backstroke (56.32, an event Chambersburg swept. Ethan White won the 100 breaststroke and swam on both winning relays — the 200 medley with Cullen McGraw, Pong and Alex Kaczmark (1:39.15), and 200 free with Colby Evans, Covington and Amir Tasker.
Tasker won the 100 free in 47.99 (White was 2nd), Kaczmark won the 50 free in 22.14 and Keagan Myers captured the diving event with 218.95 points.
Chambersburg diving coach Heather Brindle said, “State College has excellent divers, but we dove very well. Keagan had to be strong to beat Chris Hill. On Keagan’s last dive, he needed to hit a forward 1 1/2 with a full twist, and he did it nicely, getting scores of 6.5, 7.5 and 8.”
GIRLS SWIMMING
State College 121, Chambersburg 65: The Trojans managed to collect wins in only two events Wednesday evening in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet on the road in State College to a strong Little Lions team.
“It’s not easy swimming against the No. 4-ranked team in the state,” Chambersburg coach Hali Cormany said. “I’m really proud of the girls tonight. Our goal was to get season-best times to set us up for the postseason. All the breaststrokers had season bests, or were very close, and we had a solid win in the 200 medley relay.”
Margot Ritchie gained the only individual win for Chambersburg (5-2, 1-2 MPC), finishing first in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:01.10.
The medley relay team that led off he meet with a victory included Calla Hoffman, Ritchie, Audrey Keller and Lilly Evans and they hit a time of 1:57.96.
In the breaststroke, Ava Grove was 2nd in 1:14.75 and Lauren Markle was 4th in 1:19.84.
