HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers outscored Highland View 25-6 in the second quarter and romped to a 55-30 victory Tuesday in a non-league girls basketball game.
The Blazers (3-2) led 10-5 at the end of the first period, but they expanded the margin to 35-11 after the dominant second period, with Makenna Morris scoring eight of her game-high 17 points. By the end of the third quarter, the lead was an insurmountable 47-19.
“We got off a to a slow start, but our defense was able to get us going in the second quarter,” Blazers coach Corey Collins said. “Addison (Teal) and Makenna were able to get into the paint and make things happen for us. Everybody played their role for a great team win.”
Behind Morris in scoring were Teal with 15 and Reagan Witmer with 14. Rounding out the scoring were Kaitlyn Garvin with five points and Chloe Smith and CeeCee Hott with two each.
Witmer grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, and Morris led in steals with seven (she also pulled down six rebounds). Teal had four assists and five steals, Garvin contributed a team-leading six assists and added five steals, and Smith and Peyton Bricker added three steals each.
