GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 67, Harrisburg 37: The Trojans opened their Mid Penn Commonwealth schedule by overwhelming the Cougars on Wednesday night on the road.
Chambersburg (2-1, 1-0 MPC) led 16-9 after one period and led by 12 at the half.
“We played one of our most complete games tonight against a really scrappy and quick Harrisburg team,” Trojan coach Jamiur King said. “As a program, the players are buying into our strengths, allowing us to play some good basketball. We have a tough month in December and we are celebrating the small and big things.”
Chambersburg outscored the Cougars 33-0 from beyond 3-point line. Freshman Maddie Mills dropped in five 3-pointers on her way to 26 points, and junior Tori Price also hit five from long range for 15 points. Mills scored 10 points in the first quarter.
Riley Evans was a rock under the basket, scoring 17 points and hauling down 23 rebounds. She had 12 of her points in the second half.
King said, “Riley Evans continues to give us great post presence on defense and offense. Selena Warren (6 assists) provided the spark we needed to get into our sets. Tori Price’s calm demeanor allows us to spread and stretch the floor with balance.
While Harrisburg was only 9-for-24 at the foul line, Chambersburg made 14 of 25.

BOYS SWIMMING
Cumberland Valley 115, Chambersburg 71: The Eagles used a superior advantage in depth to topple the Trojans in a season-opening Mid Penn Commonwealth meet held at Mercersburg Academy on Wednesday night.
The Trojans managed to claim victory in five events — the 200 freestyle (Ethan White, 1:47.41), 200 IM (Cullen McGraw, 2:00.58), 100 freestyle (Alex Kaczmark, 47.43), 500 freestyle (White, 4:51.41) and in diving (Keagan Myers, 212.85 points).
Chambersburg coach Chad White said, “It’s not the result we wanted, but it’s a starting point and we can build from here. I feel like we had a lot of great times today. Many team members are swimming times already that they were swimming at the end of last season, which is very promising.”
In two events, Chambersburg had the winner and the runner-up — Nolan Diehl in diving (129.40) and in the 500 free (McGraw, 4:52.36) took second.
Also placing second were Kaczmark in the 50 free (22.09), Xavier Covington in the butterfly (57.44) and Griffin Adamek in the backstroke (59.02).
White said, “Alex had a really fast 100 free — he would have already qualified for states. Cullen swam a gutsy IM and out-touched his opponent by putting his head down and finishing with heart. Ethan had two strong races where he went out fast for both and was able to hold for victories. Both times would have scored at districts last year.”
The Trojans had several top performers held out of the meet because of regional competitions last weekend and this weekend.
