Alexis Nelson

GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 1, Gettysburg 0: The Blue Devils’ defense was up to the task Monday night and the offense did just enough to create a Mid Penn Colonial victory on the road.

Greencastle raised its record to 10-3-1 (9-1-1 MPC), while the Warriors are now 7-6-1 (6-6-1 MPC). The teams tied 2-2 in an earlier meeting.

The difference on the scoreboard happened in the first half when the Blue Devils were awarded a penalty kick and Callie Izer stepped up and scored the goal.

Greencastle goalkeeper Lexi Nelson made 4 saves to earn the shutout, her 7th of the season.

“It was physical game for both sides,” G-A coach Jamie Coy said.

Kaitlyn Alvey

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Northern York 0: The Blue Devils made quick work of the Polar Bears, rolling up scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-15 to win a Mid Penn Colonial match Monday evening in a home match.

For Greencastle (14-2, 12-1 MPC), Alaina Garling was all over stat sheet, putting up 7 kills, 11 service points (2 aces), 7 digs and 10 assists. Wren Roberts was also versatile, with 8 kills, 13 points, 3 blocks and 6 digs.

Abby Eagler had 7 kills and 7 digs, Addison Miller scored 8 points, Kaitlyn Alvey also had 8 points (with 2 aces), Morgan Kline had 12 digs and Kylie Kerns assisted on 10 points.

Northern is 6-8.

Wednesday’s match at Big Spring is a big one for the Blue Devils. A win can pretty much seal the Colonial title. In the District 3 rankings, G-A is No. 2 in Class 3A and Big Spring is No. 4.

Jesse Fye

BOYS SOCCER
Gettysburg 4, Greencastle-Antrim 1: The Blue Devils ran into a tough customer in the Warriors, trailing just 1-0 at the half, but ended up falling 4-1 in a Mid Penn Colonial match at Kaley Field on Monday night.

Gettysburg (14-1, 12-1 MPC) out-shot Greencastle (4-10, 4-8 MPC), 20-6.

“We controlled play in the first half, but yet another injury for us forced some changes,” G-A coach Tim Carey said. “We continue to get younger on the field, but that is not a bad thing. There are right spots at both outside back positions with Jesse Fye and Caleb Noll.”

Eli Christophel scored the Blue Devils’ goal, with an assist going to Cooper Noblit.

Carey said, “Joey Lofton had a really nice game in goal, with several quality saves (he had 10).”
