Chambersburg roundup: Volleyball team earns 3-0 win over Colts

Chambersburg 3, Cedar Cliff 0: The Trojans picked up their 12th win in the last 13 contests on Monday evening in New Cumberland, downing the Colts in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match.

Chambersburg (13-3, 7-3 MPC), ranked No. 6 in District 3 Class 4A, scored wins of 25-19, 25-19 and 26-24 over Cedar Cliff (7-9).

“This a big road win for us,” Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. “We got down early in the first set, but we never gave up. We kept clawing our way back and pulled out a great win. We captured the momentum and kept it the whole night.”

Riley Evans led the team in two categories: kills (10) and blocks (4). Alayna Jones led service points with 8, Ava Zeigler led in assists with 32 and Karley Skultety gathered up 27 digs.

In addition, Marah Lehman and Zeigler each had 7 points, Nizaya Hawkins made 3 blocks, while Jones and Lehman each had 8 kills and 19 digs.

Frelin said, “We covered well and made some great plays despite being out of system.”

Penn Manor 2, Chambersburg 0: The Comets scored in the 28th minute off a set piece and added an insurance tally in the final minute to pick up a non-league win in Millersville over the Trojans on Monday night.

“Although we played a solid second half, we were unable to capitalize on our chances,” Trojan coach Paul Unruh said. “Mariah Martin and Katy Weller were an excellent center-half pairing for us, complementing each other very well.”

Penn Manor (10-6-1) scored on own goal late off a corner kick. The Comets were ranked No. 13 in District 3 4A before the game, and Chambersburg (5-7-2) was No. 14.

Carlisle 3, Chambersburg 1: The Herd picked up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory at home Monday night over the Trojans.

Chambersburg is 1-12 (0-12 MPC), while Carlisle is 6-10.

The Trojans scored their goal in the game’s last 5 minutes. Mara Costolo scored the goal, with an assist going to Reagan Barrett.
