Chambersburg roundup: Trojan boys & girls win X-C invitational

GETTYSBURG — Chambersburg was looking for a little tune up to get ready for the cross country postseason.

Liam Kirkpatrick

The Trojans got that, plus brought home some hardware on Saturday at the Gettysburg Invitational. Both the boys and girls teams finished first in the varsity team race, both JV teams earned team titles and Liam Kirkpatrick captured first place in the boys varsity race.

“We had a pretty solid meet, beating Lower Dauphin by 11 points,” Chambersburg boys coach John Ambrosio said. “Our time gaps were better — 67 seconds from 1 to 5 — and the middle of our lineup did well.”

Kirkpatrick bested the field by finishing in a time of 16:17.7 on the 5K course. He beat the runner-up by 13 seconds.

Ambrosio said, “Liam took the lead early and then just gradually pulled away.”

Aiden Alleman took 8th (16:45.0); Julian Clark was 12th (16:56.2), Kaden Rife was 13th (16:57.4) and Boston Vincenti rounded out the scoring in 26th place (17:24.4).

“Vincenti wasn’t feeling well all week, but he’s become a consistent No. 5 guy,” Ambrosio said.

Kaylie Savage

Chambersburg’s girls battled Dallastown for the team title, which was not easy since the Wildcats put the first two runners across the finish line. But the Trojans ended up with 130 points to beat Dallastown by just one point, 130-131.

Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “We needed a meet to boost our confidence heading into the postseason, and today worked out well.”

Mady Koons took 6th place in 19:53.4 over the 5K course, and Chambersburg teammate Brook Boone was right behind in 7th in 19:58.2.

The rest of the scoring runners were Dana Rosenberry (38th, 21:27.0), Natalie Quinn (41st, 21:48.7) and Kaylie Savage (45th, 21:56.7.

“Koons and Boone were outstanding in our No. 1 and 2 spots,” Monheim said. “Our gap after No. 2 is too big, but I’m confident we will improve that over the next few weeks.

“Annamarie West was third overall in the JV race and her time was our sixth-fastest of the day, which will give her a varsity spot in the Mid Penn Championships next week.”
