Jude Grillo

Last week: State College, ranked No. 22 in the state by MaxPreps,  defeated Cumberland Valley, 30-14 … Chambersburg fell 35-14 to Harrisburg.
The opponent: The Little Lions’ only loss was 7-6 to Harrisburg when the Cougars blocked a late chip shot FG try … QB Eddie Corkery has hit 47 of 90 passes for 802 yards, 9 TDs and 3 interceptions … Lamar Wilson (38-156, 3 TDs) and Rowan Walker (32-106) are the top ballcarriers … WR Ty Salazer is one of the top players in the Commonwealth — he has 20 catches for 384 yards (19.2 average) and 3 scores, and he’s made 5 interceptions … Michael Gaul (9-157, 2) and Cooper Brushwood (7-135, 2) are also receiving threats.
Coach’s view: Trojan coach Mark Luther said, “State College is State College — they are always well-coached, and they play the kind of schemes that colleges do, and that’s what makes them go. The play within the system and play it well. Their receiver (Salazer) is solid, and always finds a way to get to the ball. Their defense is like Harrisburg plays, and even CD East — they play a 3-4 and their edge guys will get penetration and try to create chaos. We’re going to have to play mistake-free and hope some bounces go our way.”
Unsung: On the Trojan defense, Luther said, “Jude Grillo did some nice things at defensive end last week, taking on some blocks and playing technique really well.” … The secondary also limited Cougar All-State WR Elias Coke to 3 harmless catches, with Trever Luther handling much of the coverage.
Statistics: Chambersburg will be at full strength, welcoming back WR/DB Evan Brown and OL Matt Murray from injury … The Trojans have allowed 1,445 yards and have gained only 586, and opponents have more than doubled up on first downs, 78-34 … Chambersburg leaders: Passing — Ceagan Truett 23-for-61 (37.7%), 229 yards, 1 TD, 6 int. … Rushing — Imari Watson 35-180, 1 TD; Antonio Harrison 35-109, 2 TDs .. Receiving — Trever Luther 14-191; Tackles — Stanley Lozius 40; Dylan Panfili 38; Isaiah Tasker 28 … Tackles for loss — Jude Grillo 2.

GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM AT BIG SPRING
Game data: Blue Devils (1-3, 1-2 MPC) at Bulldogs (0-4, 0-2 MPC) in Newville, 7 p.m. … Mid Penn Colonial game … Live stream available on MidPennBroadcasting.com.

Mason Mellott

Last week: Greencastle was edged 7-3 by East Pennsboro … Big Spring was defeated by Milton Hershey, 21-6.
The opponent: After qualifying for the District 3 playoffs last year, the Bulldogs have had a rough start this year … RB Grant Hall is the top performer — he’s rushed 72 times and 495 yards and 5 scores — and he’s caught 9 passes for 99 yards … QB Chase Fry has connected on only 23 of 70 passes for 1 TD and 7 picks … Thomas Johnson has 6 catches for 109 yards.
Coach’s view: “I don’t look at them as an 0-4 team, and I hope our guys don’t either,” Greencastle coach Devin McCauley said. “Their offensive line is above average and Hall is a good back — we’ll have to know where he is on every play because they move him around a lot. They will run the jet, run the weep, run the trap, and then try to hit a pass in the seam over the top. We ran the ball pretty well last week, but couldn’t score. We just missed on a couple of plays in the passing game.” … McCauley is happy because the Blue Devils are getting back a handful of players who have been injured, including ace WR/S Carter McCauley, who is probable … Linebacker JD Flynn, however, will miss the rest of the season with a broken thumb.
Unsung: Mason Mellott, OG/DL — Coach McCauley said, “He works hard in the trenches, and he’s a very physical kid. He does everything you ask him to do.”
Statistics: G-A leaders: Passing — Sean Marshall 42-for-75 (56%) for 564 yards, 5 TDs and 7 int. … Receiving — Carter McCauley 27-376, 5 TDs … Rushing — Blake Reuter 43-206, 1 TD; Lars Galinanes 34-130, 1 TD … Tackles — Noah Shifflett and McCauley 25; JD Flynn 20 … Tackles for loss — Flynn and McCauley 6 … Kicking — Andrew Bowers 1-1 FGs, 5-5 PATs.
