GIRLS GOLF
Rensch is runner-up: The Mid Penn Commonwealth held its last regular season girls match Wednesday afternoon at Manada G.C. and the course played tough.
Cumberland Valley’s Megan Fenton shot 71, but you had to go all the way to 85 to find the next-best score. And that was Chambersburg’s Emily Rensch, who shot nines of 45 and 40.
Also for the Trojans, Alaina Morris shot 97 to place 14th, and Britney Miller carded a 109 to claim a tie for 26th.
Chambersburg was fourth in the team competition with 291 strokes, while first-place CV had 269.
FIELD HOCKEY
Cumberland Valley 6, Chambersburg 0: The Eagles picked up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory at home on Wednesday evening over the Trojans, but Chambersburg had a better showing than the first time the teams met.
“I’m pleased with how the girls played,” Trojan coach Kelsey Baker said. “They executed what we’ve been doing in practice. The first time we played CV (a 10-1 defeat), they had 26 shots on cage; tonight we cut that number down to 12. And last time our offense had zero penalty corners and tonight we had six.”
Chambersburg is 1-6 (0-6 MPC); Cumberland Valley is 8-3.
Baker said, “Our defense played great. Midfielder Arabella Leeking had a great game. She was great at putting pressure on in the midfield and disrupting CV’s attack. It was a physical game and it was great to see the girls hold their ground and see them being aggressive.”
