BASEBALL
Cedar Cliff 1, Chambersburg 0: For the second straight game, Trojan pitchers did their job very well, but the hitters fell short, and Monday afternoon it resulted in a 1-0 defeat to the Colts in a road Mid Penn Commonwealth game.
In the last 4 games, Chambersburg (2-4, 0-3 MPC) has scored only 2 runs and has been shut out three times.
“I don’t remember ever losing two 1-0 games in a row,” Trojan coach Scott Folmar said. “It’s frustrating, especially today because we had chances. We had six hits, which should be enough to score a run. But we did make a couple of base-running mistakes that really hurt us and we couldn’t get the hit when we needed one.”
Chambersburg was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and 4 of those outs were strikeouts.
In the second inning a Ceagan Truett single and an error put two runners on. In the third a runner was caught stealing. In the 5th, with two runners on and one out, a runner got picked off base by the catcher. In the seventh, Tyler Brechbiel led off with a single and was bunted to second, but the inning ended with a strikeout and a fly ball.
Trojan pitcher Cole Yeager went all six innings, allowing only two hits. He issued no walks and struck out four. The Colts scored in the second inning on a hit batter, a fielder’s choice and a base hit.
“Yeager was very, very good today,” Folmar said. “Both teams made some errors, but the pitchers worked around them.”
