Fannett-Metal Beats Tussey Mountain 7-6 in Extra Innings

Landon Arnold’s two out solo blast in the top of the 9th inning gave the visiting Tigers(3-4) a 7-6 lead over the Titans(5-2).  Tiger’s  reliever Wade Appleby was stellar in relief has he secured the victory for the Tigers when the Titans hit into a game ending double play.

Arnold’s solo shot off Titan’s reliever Connor Jones was the big hit that has been eluding the Tigers so far this season.  The victory raises the Tigers record to 3-4 on the season.  “We have been playing good ball all season but we just haven’t been getting the timely hits, but tonight we did”, Coffman said.

The Tigers trailed 5-3 in the top of the 6th when they rallied for three runs to take the lead.  Daxten Detweiler started the rally drawing a two out walk.  Adam Hammond followed with a hard single and Logan Hall was able to draw a walk to load the bases.  Lead off hitter Drew Goshorn brought home the first run by drawing an RBI walk to make it 5-4.  The Titans lifted reliever Santa Maria for right hander Landon Myers.  Junior Jake Coffman stroked the first pitch he saw for a two run double scoring both Hammond and Hall to take the 6-5 lead.

The Titans would tie the game in the bottom of the 6th on a wild pitch, and the game remained tied until Arnold’s home run in the ninth inning gave the Tigers the lead and the win.

Arnold started for the Tigers and went 5 plus innings.  He allowed 6 runs(5 earned) on 7 hits.  He had 10 strikeouts and only issued 2 walks.  Wade Appleby entered in relief and pitched the final 4 innings to get the win.  He scattered 4 hits allowing no runs.  He had 5 strikeouts and 1 BB.

Offensively, the Tigers only had 6 hits on the day.  Arnold had a home run, Coffman and Ayden Ryder had doubles.  Appleby, Detweiler and Hammond each had singles.  The Tigers struck out 14 times at the plate today against Titans pitching.  The Tigers scored three runs in the 4th inning on three Titans errors.

Kaden Lucko smacked a solo home run for the Titans while Ben Kormanski and Connor Jones added doubles.  The Titans used four pitchers in the game with Jack Stoudnour starting and Connor Jones taking the loss in relief.

The Tigers return home on Tuesday when they host Mcconnellsburg at 4:30.
