Chambersburg 11, Waynesboro 0: The Trojans waited an extra week to get their softball season started, but it was quite an opener — Kori Leedy fired a 5-inning no-hitter, Samantha Paetow broke the school record for hits and the offense banged out 12 hits in a non-league romp on the road over the Maidens.

Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said, “We set the tone for the day in the first inning, which was nice because as a coach you never know what to expect for the first game of the season when the other team has already played twice.”

Leedy needed just 46 pitches (34 for strikes) to go the five innings, striking out four batters. With one out in the fifth, she hit a batter with a pitch to end her perfect game bid; then the game ended on a 6-4-3 double play.

“Kori did a great job with her location today and throwing strikes. She kept the ball down and had only one hard-hit ball (against her), which Brooke Leedy handled in centerfield.”

On offense, Bree Paetow was 3-for-3, including a double; Karley Skultety went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in 3 runs; Samantha Paetow put up 2 hits in 4 at-bats, with a double and 2 runs batted in; and Addison Gsell was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Chambersburg scored 4 times in the top of the first inning, with Sam Paetow and Gsell collecting RBIs, and an error plated two more runs. Paetow’s single was the 115th hit of her career, setting the school record. She had been tied with Leah Hunt and Taylor Myers at the end of last year — each had 114 hits in three years.

In a four-run second inning, a double by Skultety and singles by Sam Paetow and Gsell brought in runs. In the third, two runs came home on a fielder’s choice by Brooke Leedy and on a passed ball. A single by Skultety scored the final run in the top of the fifth.

“It was a good start, but a big early contest looms at Central Dauphin on Wednesday, so we’ll see where we are,” SKultety said.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Central Dauphin 3, Chambersburg 0: The Rams earned wins in all three games Monday to capture a Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Trojans in Linglestown.

The games scores were 25-9, 25-19 and 25-14.

For Chambersburg, Yazaan Safi led in kills with 8 and added a block kill. Cole Leidig also had a block kill, while Joseph Byers led the Trojans in digs with 9.

BOYS TENNIS
Hershey 5, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans ran into a tough opponent Monday afternoon in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match and fell 5-0 to Hershey (4-2) on the road.

In singles for Chambersburg (2-3, 1-2 MPC), No. 1 Ian Flores Sanchez was defeated 6-3, 6-1, Nathan Heimbach was blanked 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2, and Jack Fiegl dropped a 6-0, 6-3 defeat.

At No. 1 doubles,  Lance Jacobs and Dhruv Patel were topped 6-4, 6-1, while at No. 2 doubles, the team of Caden Brenize and Daniel Chen lost 6-1, 6-1.
