BASEBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Shippensburg 2: Logan Shifflett’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be the margin of victory for the Blue Devils over rival Shippensburg in a home Mid Penn Colonial game Tuesday afternoon.
Ryan Farrow led off the eighth inning with a single and advanced to third when Ethan Ford doubled down the left-field line. After an intentional walk by pitcher Ethan Miler to load the bases, Shifflett hit his game-winning fly ball.
Miller had held Greencastle (2-1, 1-0 MPC) in check, giving up a run in the second on a triple by Parker Funk and RBI hit by Jarek Szaflarski, and an unearned run on the sixth after a Ford single and a sac bunt by Carter McCauley. Miller ended up allowing 8 hits and 2 walks.
Landon Huth pitched 5 scoreless innings for G-A, but the Greyhounds went ahead 2-1 in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Everson Weller and a triple by Kaden Shope. Huth allowed 6 hits and a walk and struck out 5. McCauley pitched the final 1.1 innings to get the win.
“The big thing today was to limit the walks — we had 8 in our first game and 6 on Friday,” Greencastle coach Eric Shaner said. “Landon did ace stuff today, but they put some good swings on several of his good pitches.
“We’re growing up and we’ll take wins any way we can get them. We have our flaws but we can learn from our mistakes.”
