G-A roundup: Soccer teams pick up wins over Rockets

Shaina Overcash

GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 7, James Buchanan 1: Haley Noblit was a goal-scoring machine Monday afternoon, leading the Blue Devils to a Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Rockets at Kaley Field.

Noblit found the back of the net 5 times — 4 in the first half —  which gives her 17 goals for the season. It also ties her for the all-time school record for goals in a career with Ally Rudy, each with 88 tallies.

Also scoring goals for Greencastle (5-2, 4-1 MPC) were Shaina Overcash and Taylor Watts, and Overcash also was credited with an assist. Others with assists were Maddie Koons, Cat Marchiano, Addison Kuhanek and Natalie Hanks.

BOYS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 4, James Buchanan 0: The Rockets held the Blue Devils scoreless in the first half, but G-A produced 4 goals in the latter half to capture a Mid Penn Colonial win at JB on Monday evening.

Caleb Baine made it 1-0 with a penalty kick, and then 2-0 with an unassisted goal. Bryce Davidson knocked one in after a pass from Ewan Coy, and then Andrew Bowers finished it off with an assist by Liam Fulton.

Ethan Ford made 3 saves to preserve the shutout (the Blue Devils (6-0-1, 5-0 MPC) have yet to allow a goal this year), while Trenton Sinclair made 11 stops for JB.

“Credit to James Buchanan — they played a great first half and were pressuring the ball non-stop,” Greencastle coach Aric Bruner said. “We changed some things up, then JB had a penalty in the box that resulted in a red card, and that really changed the momentum of the game.

“Defensively, we had one breakdown early, but we locked it down for another shutout. This was our fourth game in six days and we have a showdown with 5-1 Gettysburg on Wednesday.”
