BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — The Greencastle-Antrim football team made the most of a limited number of plays Friday night.

The Blue Devils, now 2-0, zipped to a 42-0 halftime lead and won 42-6 in a non-league game at Berkeley Springs.

Because of a rule in West Virginia, the final two periods were shortened to just 8 minutes because of the score differential. As a consequence, Greencastle ran only 24 offensive plays from scrimmage, but scored on six of them.

“We were extremely efficient on offense and executed at a high level,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said.

Carter Coons and Surzano Solomon each scored a pair of touchdowns for the Blue Devils. Surzano had just 3 carries, but collected 115 yards, including scoring runs of 84 and 15, while Coons hit the end zone on a 6-yard run and a 35-yard run on his way to 66 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Logan Alvey was 4-for-6 and 104 yards and accounted for the other two scores. He found Carter McCauley from 16 yards out for one TD and hooked up with Trent Merillat for a 34-yard pass on the final play of the first half.

The Blue Devil defense did not give up a score until 3:10 remained in the game.

Coach McCauley said, “We did what we needed to do and were able to get a lot of guys some valuable varsity playing time. I was proud of the kids and their effort and we got out without having an injury.

“We still have room for improvement and we’ll look to getting back next week and continue to improve.”

Greencastle plays at Delone Catholic on Friday night at 7 p.m.
