Abby Eagler

The Trojans won the first (26-24) and third games (27-25), but Greencastle took games two (25-22) and four (25-15).

“It was a big-time team effort tonight, with scrappy play,” G-A coach Corry Eagler said. “Lily Kauffman, Kylie Kerns and Bri Woodring all played great games.”

Abby Eagler was outstanding at the net, cashing in 26 kills. That broke the school record for one match, which had been held by Rachel Verhoef, set in 2018.

Kauffman had 9 kills, Kerns earned half of G-A’s 20 aces and added 29 assists, Woodring had 19 digs and Eagler also had 18 digs.

Also for the Blue Devils, Wren Roberts had 14 digs and Alaina Garling had 19 assists.

Abby Kielek

Greencastle-Antrim 9, Waynesboro 0: The Blue Devils opened their season with a bang, peppering the Maiden cage with goals in a Mid Penn Colonial game Thursday evening on the road.

Greencastle coach Lorraine Hohl said, “Our ability to play offense with tenacity and grit ultimately led us to victory. Connecting passes, effective communication and spreading the field allowed us to out-hustle Waynesboro against a persistent goalie.”

Three players had a big hand in the scoring — Ainsley Swindell tallied 5 goals and added an assist, Abby Kielek found the cage 3 times (the first 3 goals of the game) and an assist, and Alishya Thurmond had a goal and 3 assists.

In addition, Annika Gaus and Jensen Keefer contributed assists.

Haley Noblit

Chambersburg 4, Greencastle-Antrim 2: The Blue Devils gave up the last two goals of the game and dropped a non-league decision to the Trojans at Trojan Stadium on Thursday night in G-A’s season opener.

Chambersburg went ahead 1-0, but a goal by Haley Noblit tied it 1-1. The Trojans went ahead 2-1 by halftime, but in the second half, a long shot by Noblit found the far upper corner of the net to tie the game 2-2.

Anna Sullivan assisted on one of Noblit’s goals.

Ethan Ford

Greencastle-Antrim 0, East Pennsboro 0: The Blue Devils and Panthers played to a scoreless outcome on Thursday in G-A’s non-league season opener on the road.
Blue Devil coach Aric Bruner said, “That was quite a physical game for our first game of the year. You could tell early that East Penn had a few games under their belt, but I thought for good portions of the game, we controlled possession.
“It’s still early offensively and he finishing part will come. Defensively, we were solid.”
Greencastle goalkeeper Ethan Ford made 9 saves, including one huge save near the end of regulation to keep EP off the board.
