Gambacurta was 4-for-4 at the plate, which included her second home run of the season, and a pair of doubles. She scored two runs and drove in three.

“She was tattooing the ball today — she had a great swing going,” G-A coach Mark DeCarli said. “We heard her say when she hit the home run that it really came off the bat hard.”

Alexis Jones smacked her first career home run for the Blue Devils and had two RBIs, while Makayla Jerin also hit a double and Emma Broadwater had an RBI.

Layton (5-0) went the distance, allowing 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2.

DeCarli said, “Sophie is pitching well and mixing up her pitches. Mackenzie Wingert is coming along, too, and it’s nice to have Kaidyn Zimmerman available as our third pitcher.”

Greencastle (12-2, 9-2 MPC) hosts Northern in a showdown game Wednesday. G-A beat the Polar Bears 2-1 earlier, but trail Northern (12-2, 9-1 MPC) in the division race. The Bears are No. 2 in the District 3 Class 5A rankings and the Blue Devils are No. 3.
