McConnellsburg defeated Southern Fulton 55-46 Friday evening in a battle for the number one spot in the ICC South. The Indians (16-3, 13-2 ICC) came out strong in the first quarter jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first 4 minutes but McConnellsburg stormed back and went on a 17 to 0 run in the 2nd period to take a 22 to 13 lead into the half and never trailed again.
Southern Fulton Coach Coach Jeremy Hann stated, “They took all the momentum in the second quarter, and we never could get it back. Credit them, they had the intensity and we never matched it. We would make mini runs, but they would always answer. They took it to us tonight”.
McConnellsburg Coach Joshua Lowery said , “Our guys stayed composed and pushed back slowly to end the first quarter 13-5 with the Indians up. From that point on we turn it up to take a 17-0 run in the second quarter to lead into the first half with a score of 22-13. From that point on we remained on top.”
The Spartans (16-2 overall and 12-1 in the conference) where lead by Wyatt Hershey 15 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, Landon Ramsey 15 points, 5 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, Kole Truax 10 points, 8 rebounds, Kyle Romig 9 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, Braydon Ramsey 3 points, 3 steals, 4 rebounds, Drew Mellott 3 points
Southern Fulton was led by Dane Harvey who had a game high 19 points to go with 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Sammy Stotler had 10 points, and 2 steals. Ethan Mellott had 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Hunter Ward had 3 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Southern Fulton plays again on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Spring Mills.
