Blazers fall to Spartans

A big third quarter propelled the McConnellsburg Spartans to a 77-52 victory over the Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers in a non-league boys basketball game Monday evening.

The Blazers (6-7) trailed only 33-27 at halftime, but McConnellsburg put up 26 points in the third quarter en route to a 59-41 lead.

“This game was a tale of two halves for us,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said. “I was pleased with our reserves keeping us in the game in the first half after we got into some foul trouble. However, I was not pleased with how flat we played to start the third quarter. Credit to McConnellsburg; they made their adjustments and played harder than we did in the second half. We have to be better in that regard.”

Reece Hunsberger scored 22 points to lead the Blazers in scoring. Nollin Egolf added 18 points. Aaron Minnier put together a double-double, yanking down 14 rebounds and scoring 10 points.

Hunsberger had nine rebounds, Egolf seven and Josh Rudy six. Egolf added four assists and Minnier had three.
