Chambersburg goes 2-1: The Trojans competed at the Berserker Duals on Saturday morning at Northern Lebanon and ended up with a 2-1 record.

Against the host Vikings, the Trojans had four pins, two technical falls and four decisions. Rylan Carter (121), Mickey, Frye and Aiden Hight (189) had the pins and Mixell and Zach Evans (215) scored tech falls.

“The kids wrestled a really solid match against Northern Lebanon,” Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said. “Romberger had a nice win (6-2) over Owen Lehman, a former 2A state qualifier.”

In the championship match, against Saucon Valley, ranked No. 3 in the state in 2A, the Trojans were defeated 42-27.

Zach Sherman (114), Frye and Pierce Schoenhofen (285) scored pins, while Evans pulled out a 2-0 win with a third-period nearfall to beat Tyler Pfizenmeyer, and Hoover won by forfeit.

At 189, Hight was pinned in 1:55 by Jake Jones, who was a 2A PIAA runner-up last year.

In the wildest match of the day, Romberger was edged 13-12 by Hector Mako. Romberger trailed 10-7 after two periods. In the third, Mako had a 3-point nearfall and Romberger had a takedown and 3-point nearfall.

“Actually, the official scored that one wrong,” Mentzer said. “It should have been 13-13 and gone into overtime.”

Sherman, Frye and Evans each went 3-0 for the day.

“Ben Chambers wrestled well and Pierce Schoenhofen and Ethan Paszkowski got their first varsity wins today, and that’s always fun to see,” Mentzer said.
