Chambersburg roundup: Swim teams split with Carlisle

Chambersburg 113, Carlisle 55: The Trojans took first place in each event and rolled to a Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Thundering Herd on Tuesday evening at Dickinson College.

“The boys raced really well tonight,” Chambersburg coach Chad White said. “I loved to see us win the close races and finish strong, despite being in the middle of our tough training.”

Jed Ritchie (500 free, 5:06.91 and 100 backstroke, 59.30), Alex Kaczmark (200 IM, 2:10.79 and 100 freestyle, 50.33) and Derek Estep (100 fly, 53.33 and 100 breaststroke, 1:05.02) each won two individual events for the Trojans (4-0, 3-0 MPC).

Also copping wins were Joseph Decker in the 100 free (1:58.51) and Colby Evans (50 free, 24.85).

Griffin Adamek, Decker, Brandon Estep and Mason Diehl won the medley relay in 1:53.07; Derek Estep, Decker, Brandon Estep and Kaczmark took the 200 free relay in 1:32.5; and the 400 free relay was won by Evans, Thomas McCullough, Xavier Covington and Ritchie in 3:44.95.

White said, “The boys are becoming a close unit who are pumping each other up and wanting to do well for each other. We hope to keep building on this and are excited for what’s to come for the remainder of the season.”

GIRLS SWIMMING
Carlisle 85, Chambersburg 81: The meet came down to the final race and the Thundering Herd finished 1-2 in he 400 freestyle relay to pull out a close win over the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet at Dickinson College.

“The girls showed a lot of heart tonight,” Trojan coach Hali Cormany said. “It was a close one and they fought hard. A few girls had some personal or season bests, which was really encouraging. They were very competitive.”

For Chambersburg (2-2, 1-2 MPC), Maddie Shifler picked up a pair of wins, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:06.26 and the 100 free in 58.08.

The other individual winners were Abby Caltrider in the 100 fly (1:04.42) and Margot Ritchie in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.90).

Also taking a victory was the 200 free relay team of Caltrider, Hailey Fegan, Ritchie and Shifler in 1:47.71.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Altoona 50, Chambersburg 35: The second quarter made all the difference in the Mountain Lions’ Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Trojans on Tuesday night on the road.

Altoona (7-5, 6-1 MPC) outscored Chambersburg 20-7 in the second period, including 8 of Lanie Wilt’s 12 points.

The Trojans (2-10, 1-5 MPC) outscored Altoona by one point in the second half. For the game, Chambersburg was gold at the foul line, sinking 15 of 17 shots.

Hailey Frankhouser scored a career-high 9 points for the Trojans, while Ella Parker was 6-for-6 at the line and scored 8 points.

Melana Eyer lad the Mountain Lions with 15 points.
