Fannett-Metal (0-1) traveled to Claysburg-Kimmel on Wednesday evening for an ICC matchup with the Bulldogs. The Tigers trailed 16-15 at the half as both teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm.
In the 3rd quarter, the Tigers found some success working the ball inside to sophomore Evan Wingert who scored 7 of his team high 12 points as the Tigers held a 28-23 lead after three quarters of play.
In the 4th, the Bulldogs knocked down four three pointers to take the lead. Tiger sophomore Broc Hostler pulled his team even at 41-41 late in the 4th with a key three pointer and a floater down the lane. The score remained tied until Bulldog senior Parker Buell was fouled with 6.1 seconds left to play. The Senior hit the second free throw to give his team the lead. The Tigers did not get a shot off at the end of the game as the Bulldogs hung on for a 42-41 victory.
“We graduated five solid seniors from a year ago who accounted for 90% of our scoring so I was concerned we would struggle offensively, especially in the early going. But defensively we played pretty hard tonight and that is what gave us a chance to win this game. I really like the determination and the competitiveness of this team. As we gain more varsity experience, we will be more prepared to win games like this one”, Fannett-Metal Coach Paul Coffman said.
Evan Wingert led the Tigers with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Broc Hostler had 9 points. Landon Arnold and Drew Goshorn added 7 points each. Goshorn also had 7 rebounds. Riley Martin chipped in 4 points and Daxton Detweiler added 2 points. Jake Coffman had 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Martin added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. The Bulldogs knocked down (9) three pointers in the game, led by Tony Sacchitalla who had five of those treys.
The Tigers will travel to Northern Bedford next Wednesday for another ICC match up.
