Chambersburg roundup: Trojan boys pull away from Bobcats

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 61, Northeastern 39: A big third quarter enabled the Trojans to pull away from the Bobcats on the first night of the Franklin County vs. Everyone Tip-Off Tournament at CASHS Field House on Friday night.

Chambersburg (1-1) held a 25-18 lead at halftime. Midway through the third, the Trojans went on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 43-28. Jacob Bassham had two layups and J.J. Kelly added a dunk during that stretch.

“We got some really balanced scoring and great contributions from our entire team,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. “It was awesome to play a really good opponent in front of our fans, which included a whiteout from a very active and boisterous CASHS Crazies.”

Kelly led the way for Chambersburg with 17 points, while Sedrick Vessah scored 14 and Bassham added 13.

The Trojans play Warwick Saturday night at 8:30 in the event’s finale.

Last Saturday, Chambersburg played in the Play 4 Mae event at Woodland Hills and was defeated 56-51 by Gateway. Kelly had a monster game with 28 points and 13 rebounds and Vessah pulled down 18 boards.

In the earlier boys game Friday, Waynesboro topped Warwick, 60-56, led by Tyson Shaull (19 points), Jaylon Bean (16) and Ryan Shaffer (15).

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lower Dauphin 29, Chambersburg 17: The Trojans took on the Falcons Friday night as the hosts for the Franklin County vs. Everyone Tip-Off Tournament, and LD prevailed in a defensive struggle at CASHS Field House.

The teams combined for only 10 field goals (7 for the Falcons), and combined to make 24 of 46 free throws.

Lower Dauphin (1-0) held a 13-8 advantage at halftime, and increased it to 22-12 by the end of three periods.

Kylee Miller and Bridget Kemerer tied for high scorer for Chambersburg (0-3) with 4 points each.

For the Falcons, Lauren Wahlers scored 12 and Camden Eisaman 8.

In tomorrow’s action, the Trojans host Red Lion at 3:30. The Lions defeated Waynesboro 44-20 on Friday.
