SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 16, Altoona 1: The Trojans rapped out 12 hits and took advantage of five walks to hand the Mountain Lions a Mid Penn Commonwealth loss in four innings on Tuesday afternoon at Norlo Park.
Chambersburg (3-0, 3-0 MPC) was ready from the get-go, scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning, helped by home runs from Hannah Runk and Morgan Stockslager (her career first).
Trojan coach Chris Skultety said, “We got all 16 young ladies into the game by the second inning and they all contributed. It was nice to see the girls who got an opportunity step up. They have all been really working hard at practice, so it was nice to reward them all with playing time today.”
Alyssa Brechbill, Runk, Stockslager, Abagail Newman and Karley Skultety each had two hits, while Runk, Kenzie Boyd, Stockslager, Newman and Skultety each drove in two runs. Skultety and Abby Slimmer got their first varsity hits and RBIs.
Samantha Paetow came to the plate four times and walked all four times, eventually scoring three runs.
On the mound, Kylee Miller pitched two innings, allowing one hit and two walks, while striking out four. Saleen Null also pitched two innings, giving up three hits, one walk and a run.
BASEBALL
Altoona 6, Chambersburg 4: The Mountain Lions jumped ahead 3-0 in the first and never trailed against the Trojans, who took the defeat in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game on the road Tuesday afternoon.
For the Trojans (1-4, 0-3 MPC), all of the scoring came in the final three innings — one run each in the fifth and sixth and two in the seventh. In the fifth, a walk and single and base hit by Dru Bowling scored a run, but the third out was thrown out at third base. In the sixth, Chambersburg loaded the bases on a Tegan Kuhns double and two walks, but the only run scored on Braden Zeger’s one-out sacrifice fly. The other two outs were strikeouts.
In the seventh, doubles by Bryce Folmar and Bowling brought in one run and Wyatt Kissel also had an RBI single.
Kissel was the starting pitcher and took the defeat. He gave up three runs in the first and in three innings allowed two hits, with six strikeouts and three walks. Garrett Swatsburg also hurled three innings, giving up six hits, three runs and had four strikeouts and a walk.
Folmar was 2-for-3, while Bowling and Kuhns each went 2-for-4.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Central Dauphin East 0: The Trojans earned their first win of the season Tuesday evening at CASHS Field House by taking a shutout win over the Panthers.
Chambersburg (1-2, 1-2 MPC) gathered wins of 26-24, 25-16 and 25-21.
Trojan coach Ray Frazer said, “We served really well, which got CD East out of system most of the game. Cole Myers did a great job running the offense and led the team in assists with 18. Andrew Holtry did a great job at the net both attacking and blocking. Isaiah Sleighter also did a great job blocking. and Reed Myers had a really good night serving with 21 points and four aces.”
Holtry and Vincent Lin each had 6 kills and Cole Myers had 5. Sleighter and Holtry each had 2 blocks and 2 block kills and Joseph Byers also had 2 blocks. In digs, Reed Myers had 11, Byers dug up 9 balls and Wyatt McMullen had 8.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 122, Central Dauphin 28: The Trojans racked up first-place efforts in 15 of the events to swamp the Rams in a Mid Penn Commonwealth dual meet Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman J.J. Kelly had a big day for Chambersburg (2-0, 2-0 MPC), capturing victories in the high jump (5-10), long jump (20-2) and triple jump (42-2.5).
The Trojans had a pair of double-event winners in Ben Colli (1600 in 4:47.20, and 3200 in 10:19.48), and freshman Antonio Harrison (100 in 11.6, and 200 in 23.17).
In addition to sweeping all three relays, Chambersburg also received wins from Michael Kelly in the 110 hurdles (15.80), Zack Yourkavitch in the 800 (2:13.40), Daniel Pisle (pole vault, 10-6), Josh Mertz in the shot put (44-8.75) and James Lilley in the discus (126-0).
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 117, Central Dauphin 33: The Trojans had little trouble handing the Rams a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat on Tuesday in Linglestown.
Camryn Kiser earned a pair of wins for Chambersburg (2-0, 2-0 MPC), by finishing first in the 400 and 800 races, with times of 1:04.25 and 2:37.09, respectively. The Trojans’ other double winner was Kate Etter, who captured the long jump with a jump of 16-3.5 and the triple jump by stretching out to 34-3.5.
Other event winners for the Trojans were Lexi Boyd (5:37.52 in the 1600), Yosmary Cabrera (49.80 in the 300 hurdles), Jessy Santana (29.77 in the 200), Olivia Rieck (11:38.56 in the 3200), Kaleah Leisher (32-0 in the shot put) and Naomi Scott (98-6 in the discus).
Chambersburg also won all three relay races.
BOYS LACROSSE
Cumberland Valley 15, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans were defeated for the first time, as the Eagles rolled to a id Penn Commonwealth win Tuesday night at Trojan Stadium.
“(Defenseman) Shea Makosy got hurt last night and that hurt us a lot,” Chambersburg coach Joey Wilmot said. “But CV is a much deeper team than us anyway you look at it. They have the likely division player of the year (Nate Herbster), who scored six goals. Defensively, we did OK, but where we really missed Shea was on our clears. CV kept getting second-chance opportunities because we couldn’t clear the ball.”
Dom Marangoni scored the goal for the Trojans (3-1, 1-1 MPC).
BOYS TENNIS
Northern York 3, Chambersburg 2: The Polar Bears won a pair of three-set singles matches over the Trojans and that was the difference Tuesday afternoon in a non-league match in Dillsburg.
Ian Flores started off the match well for Chambersburg (0-7) with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Northern’s Braedon Rudy edged Paul Hance 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, wile at No. 3, the Bears’ Gavin Moyer prevailed 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 over Marcus Rahauser.
The Trojans earned a win at No. 1 doubles, as Noah Yost and Bradley Stahl picked up a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Cumberland Valley 27, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans ran into a buzz saw Tuesday on the road, as the state-ranked Eagles dominated from the start in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest.
Chambersburg is 1-2 (1-1 MPC).
Trojan coach Keara Allshouse said, “I have to give a shout out to some players who impressed me with their grit tonight. Our goalie, Ellie Nicklas, kept her head high and continued to fight, as well as some other players — Hannah Woolf, Ridglee Flohr, Ellisa Gamby-Mickey and Gabriella Sabatino.”
