Fannett-Metal Falls to Southern Fulton 6-1

Fannett-Metal (3-1) hosted Southern Fulton in an ICC contest and dropped a 6-1 loss to the Indians.  With the game tied 1-1 in the 6th, the Indians erupted for four runs to break open a tight game. They added a run in the 7th to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season.

In the 4th, Southern Fulton’s Jett Burger reached on an error and eventually scored to give the Indians the 1-0 lead.  The Tigers tied the game in the 5th when Alex Umbrell led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Coffman and advanced to 3rd on a Luke Coffman fly out.  He scored on an infield single by Landon Arnold.

In the 6th, the Indians Dane Harvey stroked a double to the gap in left center.  Mellott was then hit by a pitch.  Harvey would score on an errant pickoff attempt.  It was here the wheels fell off for the Tigers as Mellott, Powell and Price all reached base, two via errors and eventually scored to make it 5-1.  “It was a great high school baseball game up to that point, we just failed to execute the routine plays and Southern Fulton capitalized”, Fannett-Metal Coach Paul Coffman said.

Wyatt Appleby started and took the loss for the Tigers.  He gave up 5 runs with only 1 earned.  He had 6 K’s and 2 walks. “Wyatt certainly pitched well enough to win today”, Coffman said.  Colton Friese relieved Appleby in the 6th.  He gave up 1 run, 1 hit, 3 BB and had 1 K.  For the Indians Holden Stotler started and got the win.  He pitched 6 innings.  He had 4 K, 3 BB, 5 hits and gave up 1 run.  Dane Harvey pitched the 7th.

Offensively, Landon Arnold had a pair of hits and a RBI.  Luke Coffman, Drew Goshorn, Alex Umbrell and Jake Coffman all added a hit.  For the Indians Harvey, Price and Powell each had a pair of hits.

The Tigers will be on the road on Thursday for a non league contest at Hyndman.   Southern Fulton will host Forbes Road Thursday.
