The Shippensburg Greyhounds, (4-1, 3-0 MPC), put the game away early by scoring 30-first quarter points while holding West Perry to four in route to a 72-37 win in action Wednesday night.
The Greyhounds pressure defense led to steals and turnovers by West Perry to help fuel the early 30-4 lead.
“We wanted to focus on position defense-consistent pressure regardless of what defense we were in,” said Greyhound head coach Ray Staver. “Offensively, we wanted to finish better on the inside off the offensive boards, attack the inside first and hopefully let the outside open up so we could knock down some shots. We did both of those things extremely well in the first quarter.”
Unofficially, the Greyhounds finished 30-57 from the field, 52.6%, including six 3-point shots.
Anthony Smith led Shippensburg with 19 points and was followed by Jeremy Thomas with 18.
Graison Michaljuk had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds-his second of the season.
For West Perry, (1-6, 0-4MPC) Trace Reisinger led the way with 12 points followed by Dante Beddia with 11.
The Greyhounds return to action next Tuesday night when the host Central Dauphin East in a non-conference match up.
