The Shippensburg Greyhounds broke open a close game by holding James Buchanan, (2-3, 1-2MPC), scoreless from the field in the third quarter while scoring 28 points themselves, mostly on fast break baskets, to blow past the Rockets, 59-34, in Mid Penn Colonial action Monday night.
The Greyhounds, (3-1, 2-0MPC), trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter but came back to take a 24-17 lead at the half. Jeremy Thomas, who had a game high 17 points, scored 6 in the quarter. Shippensburg held JB to 2 of 10 shooting in the 2nd quarter.
Shippensburg took over in the third by scoring the first 8 points of the quarter before Trenton Miller, who led the Rockets with 7 points, hit three free throws. The Greyhounds proceeded to reel off the next 10 points, including two slams by Anthony Smith, 16 points, to put the game away. For the quarter, Shippensburg hit on 13 of 18 shots while JB went 0 for 13.
Greyhound head coach Ray Staver was pleased with the second half performance. “We rebounded really well, we defended well, and we got some easy baskets as a result.”
Jayden Statum added 14 points for Shippensburg, 12 of which came in the third quarter.
The Greyhounds return to action Wednesday night when they host West Perry.
