Chambersburg 2, Red Land 1: The Trojans finished the regular season in good form, taking a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Patriots at Trojan Stadium on Thursday night.

Chambersburg (10-5-1, 7-4-1 MPC) will play in the first round of the District 3 Class 4A playoffs on Tuesday. The Trojans currently sit at No. 9, which would mean a road game in the first round, but official pairings will be released this weekend.

“Tonight was a good way to end the regular season,” Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. “We as a coaching staff know that getting to 10 wins year in and year out is critical in getting a decent spot in the district rankings. I thought our seniors stepped up tonight, especially Andrew Quach, who had a goal and an assist.”

Quach assisted on the first goal, scored by Cohen Redding, then Quach hit the net after a pass from Cole Myers. The Trojans led in shots (10-4) and corner kicks (5-3) and keeper Drew Cover made 2 saves.

Grove said, “This has been a great group of young men. With that being said, there are lots of things we must clean up if we want to progress in districts.”

GIRLS SOCCER
Red Land 2, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans suffered a crushing Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat Thursday afternoon at Red Land in their final regular season game.

With Chambersburg leading 1-0 with time running out, the Patriots were awarded a free kick from about 40 yards out. The kick was mishandled by the goalkeeper and the ball ended up in the net to tie the game with three minutes left. In overtime, Red Land converted on a breakaway to take the comeback victory.

“We’ve been playing great, but we somehow find ways to lose games,” Trojan coach Ed Franchi said. “In five of our nine losses, we’ve had the lead.”

Chambersburg (7-9-2, 4-7-1 MPC) is still in position to qualify for the District 3 Class 4A playoffs. It is currently in the 15th spot and the top 16 qualify. The first round is next Tuesday.
