Blazers sink Shalom in overtime

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers’ Wyatt Pine booted in a goal in the first overtime as the Blazers defeated Shalom Christian 3-2 Friday evening in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference boys soccer game at Shalom.

Pine delivered the game-winning goal midway through the 10-minute overtime period for the “golden goal” that propelled the Blazers to their ninth straight victory.

After a scoreless first half, the Blazers (5-0 MDCC) took the lead with two penalty kicks around the 30-minute mark after Blazer players were taken down in the penalty area. Pine rocketed in the first penalty kick, and then Josh Rowe drilled in the second.

Shalom (3-2 MDCC) came back with a penalty kick to make it 2-1 and scored with about 10 minutes left to force the overtime. Brock Martin and Andrew Kauffman scored the Shalom goals.

“The boys played very well,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “Both teams went hard. Max (Crawford) had a great game. He and Aaron (Minnier) played multiple positions and played with discipline and the drive we needed.”
