Last week: Both teams are coming off convincing losses … Red Lion fell 47-14 to Waynesboro and Chambersburg was blanked 48-0 by Spring-Ford … Waynesboro was able to rip off large chunks of yardage on the ground and scored on a few big plays … The Trojans had no answer for Spring-Ford’s quick defense, not getting their first first down until midway through the third quarter, on a penalty … The defense held the Rams to 225 yards, but Spring-Ford kept getting great field position because of Chambersburg’s inability to move the ball (21 yards total).
The Trojans: “If we play like we did last Friday, we’ll be in trouble,” Trojan coach Mark Luther said. “We have to focus forward and execute the fundamentals. We made a lot of dumb mistakes last week. With a full week of practice, getting back to normal, and playing at home, I hope the kids are getting really excited about that.” … Thanks to mishaps on two punts, the Trojans had minus-20 yards on the ground last week, and connected on only 7 of 21 passes … The QB’s, Jermere Jones and Bryce Folmar, had very little time to set up before the rush got to them … The defense gave up only 69 yards on 25 carries, helped by the play of nose guard Patrick Demory … Luther said, “He didn’t start there the first week, but we brought him in and he did well, so we started him last week and he did some nice things. In our scheme, we need good play from the nose guard.”
The Lions: In two games, Red Lion has allowed 103 points, and they’ve also scored 49 … In the first week, the Lions lost 56-35 to Cedar Cliff … Red Lion quarterback Ryley Knaub has thrown for 273 yards, hitting on 17 of 32 attempts, with 2 TDs and one pick … RB Reid Anderson has 30 carries for 155 yards and a pair of scores, while the top receiver is Jeff Nyamekye (8-115) … Linebacker Chase Evans has racked up 21 tackles … Luther said, “Red Lion is always a solid team and they’ve got a great tradition — their kids have the expectation of winning games.”
Coach’s viewpoint: “Their forte is to run the football, but I feel good about our defensive scheme,” Luther said. “They do a lot of shifting before the snap and we can’t jump early when they do. But we have to get more going on offense and the offensive line has to play better than last week.”
