Last week: For the second straight week, Greencastle took a 14-0 lead, and for the second straight time, the opponent tied it up in the second half … But the Blue Devils put together a very nice drive late in the fourth quarter and scored a touchdown to defeat Lower Dauphin, 21-14 … “The offense did really well when we needed them to the most,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said “They showed we have some real grit.” … Delone Catholic, after getting blown out 34-14 in the first week by Trinity, had a closer game last week, dropping a 14-7 tussle to Lancaster Catholic.
The Blue Devils: Greencastle QB Taylor Conrad was 8-for-11 passing and the team had 148 yards through the air … McCauley said, “We feel confident in our game plan this week. They play a 4-4 with cover 3 and our goal is to be more balanced this week. We need to get all of our athletes into the game.” … Conrad is 10-for-18 for 109 yards, while running back David Niebauer has 22 carries for 187 yards … On defense, the Blue Devils gave up some yards, but only two scores … Safety Lorcan Wright made 16 tackles and the other safety, Ethan Shank, had 11 … “They both played well, and our whole secondary played very aggressive,” McCauley said. “On the flip side, you’d rather your safeties don’t have to make that many tackles.”
The Squires: Delone has won eight District 3 titles and has been a district runner-up in each of the last 3 years (Class AA twice and A last year) … The Squires and Blue Devils have not met, except in scrimmages, for quite a while … Delone runs a wing-T offense … McCauley said, “They run a pure wing-T; not many teams do that these days. They have two good guards and a tough fullback and are well-coached. We’ll have to be ready to stop the run and play solid defense.”
Coach’s viewpoint: McCauley said, “It will definitely be a tough contest at their house. What I want to see is us play a full four quarters. We need to do better in the third quarter than we have in the first two games.”
