G-A roundup: Blue Devil girls roll to win; boys win in last second

BOYS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 69, Boiling Springs 68: Thomas Lewis made a foul shot with .8 of a second showing on the clock to send the Blue Devils to a tight Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Bubblers on the road Friday night.

“Just a great high school basketball game,” Greencastle coach Rick Lewis said. “We just made the big plays when we needed to and I’m excited with how we’re playing.”

G-A (7-6, 6-6 MPC) led by one point heading in the fourth of a back-and-forth contest. Lewis scored nine of his 15 points in the final quarter and Boiling Springs (5-9) helped out by making only 1 of 5 free throws in the period.

The Blue Devils put four players in double-figure scoring. Besides Lewis, Conner Wright led with a career-high 19 points, Zach Cole scored 12 and Riley Gembe added 11.

For the Bubblers, Trey Martin banged in 31 points.

Greencastle-Antrim 63, Boiling Springs 13: The Blue Devils had a good game to let their seniors shine as they crushed the Bubblers in a Mid Penn Colonial game Friday night.

Greencastle broke a two-game losing skein with the help of seniors Sayge Wilhide (15 points, 5 assists), Olivia Winslow (4 points, 3 rebounds) and Jenna Powell (2 points, 5 rebounds).

The Blue Devils led 15-2 after one period, including 8 points from Lauren Pool (12 points, 6 boards), and outscored winless Boiling Springs (0-11) 25-5 in the second as Wilhide drilled four 3-point shots.

“The whole team chipped in to send our three seniors out in style,” G-A coach Mike Rhine said. “From the gym decorations to the ceremony before the game and then game itself, it was a great way to celebrate all that Sayge, Olivia, and Jenna have meant and contributed to our program. They are truly loved by their teammates and everybody worked hard to make their senior night a special night to remember.”

The Blue Devils (9-3, 8-3 MPC) made assists on 21 of their 26 buckets.

Mia Libby contributed 8 points and 7 assists, and Rylee Henson scored 5 and produced 6 assists.
