G-A roundup: Blue Devil girls soccer completes unbeaten regular season

Greencastle 2, James Buchanan 1: The Blue Devils finished off an unblemished regular season by edging the rival Rockets in a Mid Penn Colonial game Friday night on the road.

G-A is 14-0 (12-0 MPC) and will host a District 3 playoff game on Wednesday at 7 p.m., against Cocalico (10-2-1), whose only losses have been a pair of 1-0 defeats to No. 1-ranked Elco (13-0). The Blue Devils will be the No. 2 seed behind Elco in the bracket.

Courtney Andruczk and Sayge Wilhide scored the goals for G-A, and Hannah Douglas contributed an assist.

Greencastle 4, James Buchanan 0: A shutout Mid Penn Colonial win over the Rockets ended a four-game losing skid by the Blue Devils in a game Friday afternoon at Kaley Field.

Viktor Heffner scored a pair of goals for G-A (7-5-1, 7-4-1 MPC). Theo-Gerald Oreste added a goal and an assist, Adam Murr found the net with a shot and Luke Montedoro and Shayne Conway contributed assists. Goalkeeper Ryland Zimmerman made one save.

“James Buchanan really packed it in defensively in the first half, as we were expecting,” Greencastle coach Aric Bruner said. “We sustained a ton of pressure in the first half, but couldn’t get them to crack until late in the half with Luke’s laser cross with a finish from Viktor.

“We really stressed pushing the first 5-10 minutes of the second half and the boys really responded and broke down their defense with two quick second-half goals. It was nice to get back into the win column and get some of the boys in our regular starting 11 back into the lineup. ”

Big Spring 1, Greencastle 0: A first-quarter goal by the Bulldogs’ Laney Noreika was the only score of the game and Big Spring edged the Blue Devils on Friday afternoon.

Earlier this week, Noreika passed the 100-point mark for her career.

Greencastle, which finished the season with a 4-10 (4-7 MPC) record, trailed in corners (8-5) and in shots (7-4).
