Maidens volleyball victorious over Greencastle

The Maidens celebrate match point and the victory.

The Waynesboro Maidens were victorious on the road defeating the Greencastle Blue Devils 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 to improve to 11-1 (10-0 MPC) to clinch at least a share of the Mid-Penn Colonial Division Championship.  The Maidens will have an opportunity to win the title outright with a win or  with a Greencastle victory on Thursday.

The Maidens were led by Sophia Johnson 12 kills, 6 digs, 2 blocks, 1 ace and Grace Vaughn 12 kills, 1 block.  Leah Helman had a solid performance 4 kills, 6 assists, 12 digs, 2 aces and Emily Channing added 23 assists an ace and a kill.  Slaydon Fisher 4 kills, Ashley Donald 10 digs to lead the defensive charge.

Waynesboro Head Coach Kim Saunders said “Anytime we play Greencastle we know the match is going to be tough.  The girls have fought hard all season and tonight was no different.  We played well and were able to side out and stop runs efficiently.  Gracie and Sophia are our one-two punch with Fisher and Helman adding timely contributions to the mix.  Our serve receive and defense stepped up and we were able to capitalize in transition.  Channing did a nice job of mixing the offense. ”

The Maidens will travel to Big Spring Thursday evening for a 5pm JV start with varsity to follow.
