Harrisburg football withdraws from District III 6A Football Championship

PIAA District III released the following statement:

PIAA District III was informed by the School District of Harrisburg this afternoon that a Harrisburg High School football player had tested positive for COVID-19.  The positive test has placed the football program under strict quarantine through Wednesday, Nov. 5.

As a result, Harrisburg has withdrawn from the 2020-2021 District III M&T Bank Class 6A Football Championship.  Harrisburg was the top seed for the tournament and was scheduled to play York William Penn in a semifinal game this Saturday at Harrisburg.

As per PIAA District III policy, once the seedings and brackets were confirmed this morning, no substitutions were permissible.  Therefore, York High will win by forfeit over Harrisburg and advance to the Class 6A Championship game on either Friday, Nov. 6 or Saturday, Nov. 7.

York’s opponent will be the winner of Friday’s Class 6A semifinal game between No. 2 seed Central Dauphin and No. 3 seed Central York.
