Chambersburg rdp 12/10: Girls lose tough one; boys hoops, wrestling win big

Mifflin County 57, Chambersburg 52: The Trojans held a 6-point lead after three periods, 43-37, but the Huskies outscored them 20-9 in the final eight minutes to pick up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on Tuesday night.

Chambersburg could not stop Mirissa Gingrich in the final quarter — she scored 13 of her 16 points in the period.

Kiki Walker scored 7 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the other Trojans scored only one basket.

Also hitting double figures for Chambersburg (1-2, 0-1 MPC) was Erin Pattillo with 13 points, while Sydney Schmus added 9 and Bre’ya Clopper 8.

Trojan coach Justin English said, “I am super proud of how we dug down deep to be there at the end with a chance to win. We just couldn’t  overcome some mistakes in the fourth quarter to give us the right opportunities for a victory.

“But we are putting ourselves in the right position and that is encouraging.”

Chambersburg 66, Mifflin County 26: After a slow start — an 8-5 lead after one quarter — the Trojans caught fire and drilled the Huskies in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at CASHS Field House on Tuesday night.

Chambersburg (3-0, 1-0 MPC) were led by Terell Williams, who scored 11 of his 20 points in the second period, when Mifflin County was outscored 22-8.

Gus Mace also hit double figures for the Trojans, with four 3-pointers for 12 points, Braden Byers cored 8 and Henry Shearer and Carter Sollenberger each had 7 points.

Connor Cherry led the Huskies with 8 points.

Chambersburg 71, Waynesboro 6: The Trojans won 13 of the 14 bouts, including nine by pin, to roll to a non-league win over a young Waynesboro team Tuesday night.

The Trojans (3-1) got pins from Luke Mentzer (106), Rylan Carter (113), Karl Shindledecker (120), Anthony Colangelo (132), Ryder Davenport (145), Tate Nichter (145), Luke Nichter (160), Zach Evans (195) and Wyatt Hull (220).

Kelby Mixell (138) and Carson Mello, bumped up to 182, captured major decisions, Joey Fuller (285) won by 2-0 decision and Tyler Smith had a forfeit win.

For the Indians (0-1), Keegan Lehman produced the team points with a pin at 170.
