GREENCASTLE — Greencastle-Antrim High School senior cross country and track & field star Taryn Parks revealed her college decision Monday night.
Parks, one of the top distance running recruits in the nation, will attend the University of North Carolina.
“I want to thank God for the gift of running,” Parks said Monday evening when she made her announcement. “He has given me so many opportunities, like the ability to visit different schools to further my academic and athletic career, and I am eternally grateful.”
Parks is the 2019 New Balance National Indoor mile champion, and a three-time Foot Locker national cross country finalist.
She also holds six Pennsylvania state championships — a PIAA cross country crown, three PIAA 1,600 titles and two indoor titles. She also has two silver medals and a bronze in cross country.
She recently finished second in the PIAA Class 2A cross country race to her rival, Marlee Starliper of Northern York, who recently revealed her college choice, which is, ironically, North Carolina State.
Parks said, “These last four years have been a roller coaster, but I am incredibly grateful for such a supportive community.”
